V hlavných úlohách sa nám predtsaví Hilary Duf(Sam) a Chad Murray(Austin Ames)Sam Montgomeryová(Hilary Duff) má krásny život.Až dovtedy,kým jej otec neumrie pri zemetrasení,a ona neostane sama s dvoma nevlastnými sestrami a macochou,ktorá jej znepríjemňuje život.A to doslova.Lenže Sam si píše s chlapcom,ktorý si hovorí Nomad,ale v skutočnosti to je Austin Ames(Chad Michael Murray),najobľúbenejší chalan školy.Dohodnú sa,že sa stretnú na Halloweenskom plese.Ona ho spozná,lenže sama nechce ukázať vlastnú tvár.Pár minút pred polnocou jej zapípa mobil,ktorý pri úteku stratí.Austin vylepí po plese po celej škole plagáty,na ktorých stojí,že hľadá svoju popolušku.Neskôr na to,že si Sam dopisuje,prídu jej nevlastné sestry,a chcú sa jej pomstiť.S ich plánom im pomôže Austinova ex.Znemožnia Sam,a tá chodí po škole zo zvesenou hlavou,a smutným výrazom.Austin sa cíti rovnako,lenže otec ho núti splniť jeho sen.byť futbalovým hráčom a kapitánom!!!
